GSN-Middleware for Sensor Networks

27 May 2007 karaltan Yorum yapın

The Global Sensor Networks project (GSN) was started in Nov. of 2004 by Ali Salehi under supervision of Prof. Karl Aberer at LSIR Laboratory, at EPFL. The project evolved very quickly because of its promising features (e.g., sensor network deployment without programming) and currently there are several labs in EPFL and other universities using it as their platform for publishing/processing/sharing/etc. of the data received from their sensor networks.

The project is currently backed by research teams in EPFL (Prof. Karl Aberer) and DERI (Prof. Manfred Hauswirth) with several postdocs and PhD students contributing to the project regularly. Jerome Rousselot at CSEM, Switzerland joined the project in early 2006 and contributed, among other things, to the development of some generic wrappers and documentation.

Power Film for Wireless Sensor Network Applications

25 May 2007 karaltan Yorum yapın

Wireless sensor networks are used in environmental monitoring applications (e.g. weather, flood monitoring, forest fires, etc) which require long term deployment in an outdoor setting. Since battery power is the key constraint, solar energy is a useful option for powering the nodes. When I last looked into solar cell arrays they came encased in glass with bulky metal frames to hold them together. The type sold for home installations were priced in the stratosphere. If a tree fell on it and broke the glass then it would no longer function.

Security and Cooperation in Wireless Networks-book

12 May 2007 karaltan Yorum yapın

The book “Security and Cooperation in Wireless Networks”, by Levente Buttyan and Jean-Pierre Hubaux, is available for free download (until it is published by Cambridge University Press). Also available are the PPT slides and the PDF files accompaining the book. As the authors say: “To summarize, our purpose is to avoid that ubiquitous computing becomes a pervasive nightmare.”
