We see a lot of new products over the course of a year, in a variety of venues. From all the new products we heard about in 2006, here’s our selection of those that we found the most interesting. Wireless Sensor Networks Lecture

Wireless sensor networks are computer networks designed for collecting distributed sensor data. For this goal the hardware is stripped to the bare minimum. So, other computer networks must be used and comfortable solutions like WLAN 802.11 or Bluetooth cannot be used, here. The main reason is the lack of hardware and the energy constraints. Since wireless sensor motes (the nodes of a sensor network) are usually powered by batteries and have to work for months or years.

The lecture is organized as follows
Introduction
Architecture: hardware architecture, network architecture
Communication protocols: Physical layer, MAC protocols, Link-layer, Naming and addresing, time synchronization, localization and positioning, topology control, routing protocols, data-centric and content-based networking, quality of service
3 hours of lecture and 1 hour exercise (3V+1Ü SWS)
Special lecture for master students for computer science
